The Queen and her 300,000 soliders marched across the border of her land and Carthage's. She and her people wanted their land back and that was as far as they were going to move. Once they took back their land, she would leave Carthage alone. Her army was in a odd formation. Both of the flanks had more people, but the center had few. The point of this formation was to make the enemy want to attack the center. She also had her warlords train the men on how to defend themselves if a elephant does charge them. They would open up the lines at the last minute, so the elephants would run into it and then they would spear it to death. There were about 20,000 cavalry and 50,000 archers. Sine Carthage was already going to attack Rome soon, since she had also sent troops there, she knew that the army shouldn't be very large, considering that this was supposed to be a surprise atack on Carthage. If there was a diplomatic solution to his, she would take it, but if not, they will fight.
(I waited a day, which I think is right?)

While 230 000 men had left to fight in Italic, the rest had gone back to their homes. With 20 000 warships anchored to the harbor of Gades, the most southern city of New Carthage. The army who contained 370 000 Spanish infantry and 10 000 war Elephants had gone ashore, now as the news reached that the Celtibarians had invaded north, the soldiers were called in to fight. Three strongholds the land had, Gades in south, while more northern east laid Cartagena and Sarguntom, as well the Balearic islands. These regions were mostly used as main training ground, but also stronghold in case enemy would attack. Cartagena was their capital.
However the civilians who were scattered all over the kingdom, was ordered to move into the closest fortress nearby. The commanders had decided to meet the enemy on open plains, if the battle would go bad then they would retreat back to the capital close by. As the news of the Celtiberians attacking, they also had sent words to the king of Carthage. If difficulties was to come, then the rest would join to destroy the enemy. The 370 000 Spanish infantry who were left was great fighters, not only did they carry swords that were special made but also shield, spears, bow and arrow as well many more items. 70 000 of them were archers, 250 000 swordsmen and 50 000 spear-men. The archers were light clothed, but using long bows that easily could shoot far. Some knifes they had along, as well arrows they had on their back. The swordsmen used a huge round shield, heavily armed as they also used their dangerous swords named falcata. The armor they had on were made of iron, but covered with the colors black and white by the fabric they had on. Pointy the helmets was, as they had small white feathers on the side. Under the armor, chain mail were used to reduce damage thought easily dressed for them to move well in battle. The Spear-men was not much different, although the spear was sharp as an iron point were placed on it top.
Before the army arrived the enemy who approached, a messenger was sent to meet them. If peace could be achieved, then good it would be for both parts. Still the Celtibarians seemed revengeful, as they wanted the land they ones owned back to their country. Quickly the messenger rode with a white flag, telling them that he came in only business to speak in peace. With the sight of the enemy army in front, he soon stopped as he greeted them with raising his hand. The language between their two nations surely were different, but those who had lived in south of Celtiberia were similar to their speech. Hopefully the enemy would like to settle the terms, before any battle could start.

Octavia's army was well prepared for the fight that may happen. Most of their weapons were sharp and their armor was one of the best in her kingdom and most around her. Her people were known for their craftsmanship. Octavia herself had a uniquely designed weapon for herself. It was a spear, but it had a blade on each side of it. She was still training on how to use it, but she would be ready if there was going to be a fight on this day.
As Octavia rode her horse among her men, she noticed a man with a white flag. She turned her horse and took off towards the man. Her soldiers made a little gap for her to run through, so she didn't have to dodge them. Octavia was wearing a light armor, to provide the most movement with good protection. Her hair blew in the breeze behind her as she raised her own hand to the man. She held her weapon in her right hand, at her side. She was hoping that the Carthaginians were going to give back her land, but she doubted it.
Octavia stopped her horse as she looked at the messenger. "If peace is to come between our lands, you will give back the land you have stolen from me. I want the southern part of Celtiberia returned to me and there will be no bloodshed on this day. You don't have any other options. Give back our land..." Octavia said as her voice trailed off. "Or be destroyed." Octavia finished, her brown eyes going to the messenger as her horse moved closer. "What do you say?" Octavia said, her voice had a dangerous tone to it. Behind her, her army let out a loud yell, as intimidation. While they did that, the warlords began to move them into position. The center was left weak, while the flanks had more men.

Post by Terion, King of Ireland on Feb 12, 2008 10:54:00 GMT -5
Terion’s army of 600,000 Celtic warriors had made its way into Celtiberia and the Southern tip of the country. The King of Carthage could be sure that the soldiers that were led by Terion would not be fighting on his behalf. They fought for their brethren and Terion intended to fight along side of Octavia. The position of this particular arrangement was difficult but Terion had made sure to give his own men and those of Celtiberia a considerable advantage. Behind Octavia’s lines, rode 100,000 light cavalry in four divisions broken out behind her lines. Terion rode with a small force of soldiers towards the meeting field. He could see that messengers had already been sent out from both sides. The sound of his horse was already causing a commotion amongst the Celtiberian army, but it was one of triumph and cheering. The dust rose up into the air from the heavy troop of soldiers that followed. Terion’s main mass was not coming up to support the rear of Octavia’s soldiers. No, they were going to form the left flank of the battlefield. Terion had place himself or at least the bulk of his men in a strategic position to prevent the Carthage army from actually returning to their capital city of they left. Granted, his soldiers were still in transit, but the other half of his light cavalry had reached their destination. In total, 100,000 archers, and 300,000 infantry would be there standing in waiting if the Carthage army was forced to retreat. The 100,000 archers were behind the infantry. The infantry carried long spears and swords and they would they formed a solid wall around the archers as the moved and shot. They were good a moving, well a fighting and could be moved around the battlefield at will. Not to mention that they had found some high ground to shoot down onto the enemy. If either Octavia or the leader of the Carthage army had a spyglass, they would be able to see the army forming on the hilltop. Octavia had but to look forward to her left and Carthage, to his right. The cavalry lay behind the hill, ready to ride. Whether or not the Carthage army knew this or not was beside the point. They would not aggress an army of such size without trying to negotiate and all the negotiations were happening in front of them. The hundred thousand cavalry that Terion had brought with him moved to the outside of the lines and to the left of the army. They would swing like a door onto the Carthage army if the time came and push them into the center of the Celtiberian force. Everything was well set and planned for and the battle that was about to begin would be one by the Celts. Terion knew the importance of defeating the enemy soundly and letting no one escape the battlefield. That was why Terion loved horse and cavalry. They were easily dispatched upon fleeing soldiers to round them up and finish the job. Well, Terion was in this battle just as much as Octavia was and he was sure as hell going to have his say in the negotiations. Terion rode alone towards the messenger and Octavia and rode up behind them, hearing what Octavia said and listened to her conclude her statement. “Nice speech.” Terion concluded and looked over at the messenger. “Tell your leader…” He began intently. “That the Celts will not be manipulated. I am Terion, King of Ireland. There is no use in hiding the vastness of my army. You will find out soon enough. I have brought over half a million men to this battlefield. Tell your King, tell your general that he has but one chance to withdraw his men from this field, he has but one chance to pull away from this country and go back home…peacefully. Or, every soldier on your side of the field will die today.” Terion said resolutely. If Terion was going to negotiate, this was how it was going to be done, with overwhelming odds. They might not have to fight today. Terion was a young king but he knew how to fight. He knew how to command an army and he was strong and resolute. He was truly adamant about protecting his people and anyone that deserved the right to be called a Celt. So like here is what this all looks like i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/tyler_jacksparrow/Celtiberiafight.jpgAhh, i forgot the second cavalry. Um, they are hanging out behind the two right columns.

As the army were heading north to were the enemy lingered, a messenger had been sent to speak sense with the Celts. Only 370 000 infantry and 10 000 Elephants were on the way to meet them, even more was to come later from Carthage itself. Curiously the messenger listened to the words Octavia and Terion gave, he slightly got worried but answered in defense of those he protected."Carthage will never give up this land, if you have come to fight us then be it. However we ask you to turn, or we will cause you damage more then you can Imagen. This is an insult and will not be tolerated well among our king, you maybe are known for your numbers and strength but use them we doubt you can."It was angry words who was shared between them, although important New Carthage were for military training and could not easily be given up.
Even something the enemy had planned it would not work good on those from Carthage, most of them were clever and specially the family named Barca. In generations they had defended the land against many enemies, since difficult their mind was to figure. By their stay in New Carthage, they had trained the warriors to become greater then ever. For long had they prepared for a massive attack against Rome, but now as Celts had attacked the plans were left to do another day. One of the family member of Barca were to lead the army, as the king were on other places elsewhere. With the army he had traveled, but after some time they arrived. The infantry who came along soon stopped at the sight of the enemy in distance. On the sides the Elephants were chosen to split up in two groups of 5000 in each, still good protected all of them were. As the messenger spoke on, he said."What else may we offer that will make you leave this land, we have none intentions to fight but if you wish it then we will give it."

Octavia flashed Terion a smile before she looked back at the messenger. She listened to what Terion said, and she nodded in agreement. But, what the messenger had to respond completely surprised Octavia. She began to laugh at what the messenger said as she moved her horse closer, more threateningly. "Perhaps you don't understand the... gravity of the situation, my dear messenger." Octavia said, a dark tone in her voice. "You are heavily outnumbered, even your pathetic king should know that and what is an insult is you disgusting pigs taking my land from me and using it against me!" Octavia yelled, her eyes going to Terion for a moment.
Octavia stayed quiet for what the messenger also said and she rolled her eyes. "Offer me? You think you can bribe me into leave my land?!" Octavia said as she glared at the messenger. "I'm afraid you don't have a much of a choice. It would be wise of you to go back across the sea and into your own land and give me back my land." Octavia said. She was tired of these negotiations, mostly because they weren't going anywhere at all. The messenger seemed confident that they were not going to leave, but that means that her men could get the revenge they want. Her people tried to defend the cities, but they all fell. She was determined to let her men tear these pathetic worms apart, so that they can get the revenge that they deserve.

Terion listened to the messenger, who spoke with a very annoying and confident voice. He seemed very overconfident and he had the nerve to try and bribe Octavia out of her own land. Terion circled the man with his horse the entire time that the man was speaking, circling the entire party that was present. Terion was a man that didn’t stand still for very long. He kept moving, kept his options open, made sure that he had a way out and was a very intelligent person overall. Terion smirked when the man said that the soldiers of Carthage were going to cause him trouble. He raised an eyebrow at this amusing idea. Terion leaned forward, now on the man’s right side. “Listen boy, elephants do not scare my men, your men don’t scare my men. Your army does not scare my men. I outnumber you, out position you and out smart you.” Terion said, looking down, his hand around the hilt of his sword, “Here is an example…” he said and with a glint from cold steel and a quick squirt of blood, the messenger’s head fell to the ground, followed by his limp body. Terion turned to Octavia and smirked and then his face became deathly serious, “I will not be manipulated or bribed. Neither will you!” Terion declared and then looked out over the battlefield, his eyes shifting back and forth, his horse jittering, longing for battle as he did. He turned and looked back at Octavia. “Do I say, when I say and you will loose few men in this battle? They will come at you or come at me. They come at you, I close them into you. Don’t break. They come at me, you do the same.” Terion turned and waved his hand at one of his flag bearers at the end of the field near his cavalry.
The man saw Terion’s motion and he lifted his flag up. Terion turned and watched as the next flag in his cavalry was raised and then the next flag in his infantry and then his archers on the hills received the message. Everything was in place now and the soldiers were ready to take on the soldiers of Carthage if they chose to come and fight. It would take them a time to figure out that the messenger wasn't coming back. Terion turned back to Octavia. "I will be the flank of your army. My horse will come around and be the extreme flank, or depending on the situation, combat the elephants. My archers were bring round behind yours. Send your infantry out as my heavy pike will protect both yours and my archers. They wait at their city and when they come out, they will have an army to fight. Make sure that you can not be outflanked on the side my soldiers are not on." Terion said and then turned and looked at the battlefield that would come. This is where they would stand and fight. Everything was moving now, his army into postions, his cavalry would be the straw that broke the camel's back for the Carthage army.

Before the messenger ever was able to answer, his head were cut straight off. The army who marched north to meet the enemy, did not know what had happened. Although if the messenger would not come back, then they would know. The war that had been in Italy were over and the men had ones again gathered, the survivors in the west had started their travel to aid New Carthage in battle. With the strongest fleet of all Mediterrian sea, they traveled with 150 000 ships as still more were left behind. The whole army of Carthage would soon be gathered on the shores of Sarguntom, to strike the enemy from flanks and back. Soon as the southern army arrived, they stopped some miles away were the enemy could be seen. Everything looked suspicious, and it seemed more men had arrived to help the Celtibarians as flags could be seen around. The army of Carthage still stood in same position, but far out of their archer range. Scouts were sent out to have a look around the area, in case more surprises would appear. Shortly after they all agreed that the messenger who were sent, would not return. The Celts said no, which meant war would begin.
General Barca who were to lead the army, sat upon his horse as he curiously looked over the land. Similar to how the celtibarians were placed, the Carthage army also stood. Although all the infantry were united, but in lines after each other. First the spear-men were placed in front, second the swordsmen and then archers behind. On both flanks, Elephants stood protecting. It was a dangerous sight that met him on the fields in front of him, but not afraid him nor the men were. The enemy who never had seen Elephants would probably be shocked by the look of them, and possible their horses would be scared by the large beasts. No horse had never been able to attack Elephants, they simply were to afraid to meet them even some tried. With the army ready far from the enemy, they waited. If they were to shoot or attack then they would need to move forward, only then could they fire or attack. The Carthage archers were ordered to lit fire on the ground, so easily they would be able to shoot if any came within their range. It would not be Carthage army who would lose men first, but the enemy.

Octavia watched Terion as he circled the messenger and when he began to speak to him, she could tell he was about to do something. She saw the glint of steel and the messenger's head falling to the ground, along with his body. Octavia didn't say anything as she looked at Terion, who was looking at her. "Well said, Terion. These negotiations were going no where. They just don't get it, I guess." Octavia said as she listened to him. "Of course, that is a good tactic. Try to force them into the center of my army, where it is weakest. My flanks will come in and attack them, trapping them." Octavia said.
Octavia watched him as he waved his hand and his flags began to raise. When he turned back to her, her eyes went to his. She nodded to what he said as she looked at him. "Terion, I have heard rumors. They have elephants, but my warlords and I have come up with a plan. When they charge, form channels for them to run into and then kill them. But, you must always go for the rider, hopefully that will make the elephant run into their own men." Octavia said as she looked at him. She was nervous about this battle, yes, but she wasn't going to leave until she got her land back.
Suddenly, a messenger rode up to Octavia, holding the Celtiberian banner. "Queen Octavia." The messenger said as he bowed his head to both of them. "Your army that was heading to Rome has turned and is coming back here. Orgnuf is planning on attacking them from behind, pushing them into you both. Rumor is, that the Romans are also going to help." The messenger said as Octavia looked at Terion as the messenger rode back to her army. "I know you don't like the Romans, but if we are going to need to take down the whole Carthaginian army, we need their help. My other force that is lead by the Warlord Orgnuf is 350,000 strong. I don't know how large the Roman army is. If we are to win, we will need their help. I hope you are not upset." Octavia said as she looked at Terion. If they were going to win this battle, whether he admitted it or, they needed the Romans to help them.

Terion’s army was spreading out now and positioning themselves properly to fight this army that they were going to have to face. Terion hadn’t planned to fight elephants but he figured that like all enemies, they could be killed. The amount of elephants could not be all that overwhelming and Terion believed that his cavalry would well outnumber them and they would be able to take down the elephants. He was worried a bit about his horse’s stamina, but beyond that, he was not worried about their fear. His horses were trained to stay focused during battle whether or not the enemy was an elephant or a mouse. Terion was trying to rethink his strategy to find any holes in his plan. As he did so, one of his scouts returned to him around the same time that Octavia’s did. It was quite remarkable about how much actually went on before a battle commenced. Terion’s scout hailed him and spoke, “Sit they have broken into formation and new reinforcements have hailed from the sea. We can not estimate their numbers.” The man paused as he looked over at Octavia and her scout before looking back at his king, “They have elephants sir and they protect the flanks, they do not charge at the center.” Terion raised an eyebrow at this and immediately began to formulate a plan to deal with this. “Ride to the columns, tell the cavalry to ride around, provide an extreme flank. If I can separate the elephants I will and if I can cut off a retreat or reinforcements, tell the cavalry to do so. Tell me soldiers turn in and become the backbone of this army. We can’t fight the center, we have too many archers.” Terion said and the man rode away with the orders. Terion turned to Octavia.
Terion turned to her just in time for her to tell him that her men from Rome were returning and then she told him the most appalling news of all. She told him that the Romans were also coming. Terion looked to his rear and to the rear of the army, sitting uncomfortably on the horse. She could see that there was anger in his eyes and there was surely anger in his voice. “The Romans! Do not be foolish Octavia! I will not fight alongside them. The only time I see them on a battlefield is when I kill them!” Terion proclaimed and beckoned for one of his men to come up to him. “Ride, tell the soldiers to pull out and wrap behind the battlefield, redeploy from this field.” Terion said and then man nodded his head and rode off. Terion turned back to Octavia and rode his horse up hers, his horse moving back and forth, both he and the horse jittery. It seemed that even the horse was affected by the name of Romans. “You split your army here. My forces are more than prepared to fight alongside their brethren. However, they will ONLY fight alongside their brethren and not the Romans!” Terion yelled. “To bring them into your territory is foolish, to bring them to this battlefield is moreso. You may have gained an ally but you lost one as well.” Terion cried and dug his heels into the horse’s side and galloped back towards her lines. His men would pull out of this battle, not to fight with the Romans, never to fight with the Romans. His cavalry would deploy a few miles East of the battlefield and his infantry and archers would position a few miles North. They would aid a retreat, but nothing beyond that. Octavia should pray that the Romans took another route. If they ran into Terion’s army, they would fight.

Octavia listened to Terion as he began to react to the news. She was not surprised by the way he reacted, but suddenly something inside of Octavia snapped. A fury she had never felt before in her life. Before he rode off away from her, she decided to let that fury go. "Terion! You are the foolish one. You know we can't possibly hope to win this battle without any outside help. The Romans won't even be next to us, they are going to attack from behind the Carthaginians and then go south into their territory!" Octavia yelled. "I can tell them to not come and to just attack the Carthaginians some place else, if that makes you feel any better!" Octavia screamed in fury as he rode off away from him.
Octavia could see his army began to move out of position and she began to shake with anger. She dug her heels into the side of her horse and she chased after Terion. Her horse was going as fast as it could as she caught up to him. "Terion, please. My people need you. We can't hope to win this battle, even after our forces return from Rome. The Romans will not come, I will send a message to them to go somewhere else." Octavia said. But as they kept riding, she grabbed onto her spear and she hit him with the blunt end of it, knocking him off his horse. She stopped her horse and she jumped off it, holding the spear point at his neck.
"You listen to me. You want my alligence? Do you want our people to be free? Then fight with me! We are showing the Carthaginians our weakness. We need to unite, not be pulled further away. You will be fighting alongside your brethren, but it is your choice now. Without the Romans, my army will only be 650,000 men strong. We need to work together, Terion, without the Romans." Octavia said, moving the spear head away from him and helping him up. "Reconsider what you are doing. If we fall here, all of Celtiberia will fall and soon the rest of the Celts will fall. If you fight, you fight among Celtiberians, your brethren and there will be no Roman army here to steal the glory of this battle from us." Octavia said as she walked back to her horse, getting on it and riding back to her men. She said what all was needed to be said to him. It was his choice now whether he would help them, since it was now just Celtiberia.
A messenger rode up to her and she looked at him. "Send word to the Romans to find a different fight. We can handle ourselves here. Tell them that I... over estimated the Carthaginians and we will be fine." Octavia said as the messenger nodded and rode off. Octavia rode back to her front lines. "Change formation." Octavia said as her army changed into simple lines. That way they would have no weaknesses in their lines.

Terion was no fool. He was not going to put his men in a position to be betrayed by the Romans. He was not going to forfeit their lives if some Queen could not wrap her mind around the fact that there were certain people that simply could not be trusted. There was a reason that Terion had set up a blockade between Rome and the Celtic lands. It was amazing that they had been able to maneuver around the blockades of the Mediterranean to help fight here in Celtiberia. Either way, it didn’t matter because Terion would never fight with them. He would not attack them because they were helping his kin; however, he was unlike his brethren in the fact that he would never lower himself to fight with such worms. Terion was contemplating leaving the entire field and just returning to Ireland. Octavia had been foolish in assuming that he would fight with the Romans and he had half a might to make her pay for that stupidity. He knew though that he could to leave his kindred that way. He would not fight, but he would remain on the outskirts of the battle several miles away.
Terion was thinking about all of these things when he felt the crack of a spear on his head and he fell off of his horse. No sooner had he stood up had Octavia placed the sharp point of the spear to his neck. Terion raised an eyebrow at this gesture. He knew that she wasn’t foolish enough to try and kill him, but into helping her. Once she put the spear away he mounted his horse again. He looked he listened to her proposition anyway. He was in his mind, no way going to let her talk him back at Octavia. “You the fool. You best call for the Romans to aid you, for I will not.” Terion said. He looked back at the battlefield for a moment. He then turned back to Octavia, “You are going to need it.” Terion said and then rode off the battlefield. Octavia could already see that his men were leaving the field. The two cavalry units were reuniting and leaving the battlefield. His men would not be aggressed once they left the field; they were too great in number and would stretch the Carthage forces too much to attack them. Either way, Carthage had no reason to attack. Terion would not fight with Octavia or the Romans.

When Hanagol Barca, the general of the Carthage army saw an army of Celts retreating from the battlefield. The men cheered out of joy, thinking that victory was near even the celtibarians stood still waiting. Some distance away, out of the enemy archer range the army stood ready to defend their land. However soon more would come to help, the army who earlier had attacked the roman invasion of Italy was now turning back home. New Carthage was the base of their military, which was most important if they were to survive in the future. Even many thousands Celts left, the general still did not believe everything was safe. It could be a trick and if so, then he would need to do something about it. Quickly he ordered scouts to look around and rapport back what they figured, although with the celtibarians who waited he decided to give them a moment of surprise. With a nod he ordered the banner carrier to give the signal with the flag, telling the infantry to move aside so the archers could move forward. With 70 000 archers ready with fire arrows, they aimed towards the middle of the Celtic army and shot. Like a cloud the volley of falling arrows went straight to hurt the core of the enemy army without needing to meet them, this was a moment to show the best how clever one could be. As soon the archers fired, they moved behind the lines of warriors before ever the Celts ever stroke back. Now they would be busy with the 70 000 arrows carrying fire on pike that went towards them, giving Carthage sometime to prepare for the next move. At the both sides 5000 elephants stood, protecting the flanks in case attack from side.
Soon as nightfall would come, the ships with more men would arrive the shores of New Carthage. Everything was depending on the skills in battle, the Celts would soon see how massive army they fought against. With the army silent, only the sound of smashing armor and weapons as the wind went by the general ordered everyone to be ready in case of counter attack.

Octavia glared at Terion as she rode her horse back to her own soldiers. They would need to hold the Carthage army back until their own reinforcements arrived. Octavia noticed the movement in the Carthaginian army and she stood still, watching them. Octavia noticed what seemed like a cloud coming from enemy lines, and most of her soldiers noticed as well. She quickly turned her horse around to face her men. "Spread out, get your shields up!" Octavia yelled as the soldiers spread out, hoping to reduce the amount of casualties taken. They also lifted up their shields and Octavia rode away from the center, where the arrows were going. She turned her head in time to see the arrows hitting her soldiers. Some were blocked with the shields, but others were pierced by the arrows and fell to the ground. Once the volley was over, Octavia rode back out in front of them. "Reform the lines!" She yelled as he soldiers stepped over the dead and reformed their lines.
Octavia pulled out her sword as her horse reared up. "These Carthaginians fight like whimpering children. When the time comes, you may slaughter every single one you want, spare no one. These Carthage fools deserve the death that they earned." Octavia yelled as her soldiers let out a battle cry. "Fight, fight them all. Spare none of them and fight to your dying breath!" Octavia yelled as her soldiers let out another battle cry, louder then before. She pointed her sword at the Carthage army and they moved forward, just enough so that her 50,000 archers could open fire on the enemy army. They loaded their bows and waited for Octavia's order to fire. Octavia looked at the enemy before she raised her sword, then lowered it as her archers fired and reloaded again. "Fire at will!" She yelled as her archers began to fire at will. Octavia moved to where the 20,000 calvary were, positioning her self in lead. She would lead the calvary charge against the enemy, once they were close enough. She knew that they were outnumbered, at least until their reinforcements arrived, but she had confidence that they would be able to hold the Carthage army at bay for the moment. She could really use Terion's help, but she knew that he wasn't going to come and now she had to wait for her own soldiers and the Roman army to arrive.

The general of the Carthage army showed no emotion in his face when the arrows hit the lines of Celts, silent he sat watching upon the horse he owned. In distance after the sight of the falling warriors, he could see a woman speaking for the people. She had to be the leader, which he believed was strange. Although as soon her army moved forward and started to fire at will, he quickly shouted orders to the army." Testude formation, Spear-men, move forward! Elephants, aside!" Soon as that was told, the infantry in the testudo closed up all gaps between each other and grabbed their shields at the sides (rather than by the grip behind the umbo). The first row of men, possibly excluding the men on the flanks, would place their shields in front of them, from about their shins to the middle of their faces, so as to cover the formation's front. Everybody in the middle would place their shields over their head to protect from above, balancing the shields on their helmets and overlapping them. Archers protected by shields of their swordsmen and the far distance away from the arrows who fell upon the first lines, still ready and able to fire again. Quickly the spear-men in the tight formation of shields moved forward to fight the core of the enemy army, as the arrows streamed upon them like rain on metal. However many fell before any was able to put up their shield, the 50 000 reduced swiftly as closer they approached the Celts.
With the spear men being sacrificed for the good in battle, the eye of the enemy would now be fixed on them. Further behind where the infantry with the archers stood being protected by shields, the elephants on the sides got orders to move aside. Something had to be done quickly if victory was to be achieved, the general believed that an attack at the enemy flanks would increase the chance of wining. With a nod he ordered the 5000 elephants on the left flank to strike against the enemy cavalry on the left, while the other 5000 elephants on the right flank to strike against the enemy cavalry on the right. Quickly they went on the sides of the Celts, but charged in full speed towards their cavalry. The trembling feet's of the elephant shacked the ground like an earthquake, possible making the cavalry unable to charge as fear would fill the enemy horses hearts, perhaps able to turn their own animals against them self. On each elephant sat one spear men, ready to kill all that stood in the way.
As the spear men moved against the core of Celts, the elephants would attack the sides. Still in the far distance out of battle, stood the 250 000 swordsmen and 70 000 archers almost untouched by arrows. On the ground before them, they could see many dead bodies pierced with enemy missiles, but protected the others still stood with shields around them. Now as the enemy would be to busy on their own side, the archers once again moved forward and fired at will toward the Celtic archers while still being under protection by swordsmen. Soon the whole core of the enemy would be destroyed by the remaining Carthage spear men and arrows who came towards them, the cavalry would as well feel the terror of the mighty moves elephants could cause.
