From the moment Rome agreed to help Celtibaria in war against Carthage, they had prepared for a long invasion. Seven thousand war ships had been built and constructed, specially to outmaneuver enemies and to carry more warriors at sea. Lucius who was a close friend to the Celtic queen Octavia, had accepted to aid them. However the senate did not like this, even they had no other choice then to help. 400 000 legionaries was chosen to go at war, along with the Celtic warriors that earlier had helped Rome in battle against the Italics.
On each ship with 50 men was to carry five Ballistae, two Onager, twenty Scorpios and one catapult. The ships was large and could carry a lot, but slow it traveled. With big sails and slaves to paddle, the armada would sooner or later arrive in time. Lucius himself would not follow as other business he had to do in Rome, however his trusted general would go along and fight if needed. From the harbor when everything was set, they all began to travel and headed toward west were Celtibarian land laid under siege by Carthage.
It was an amazing sight, which made every Roman proud as large the fleet of ships was. However as further they went, they could see lands not far away. The General watched from the frontier ship, thinking it would be good to surprise the enemy with a small attack. With a look on the Celtibarian leader, he spoke out loud."What say you?, shall we give them a surprise?"
