Rome The city developed into the capital of the Roman Kingdom (ruled by a succession of seven kings, according to tradition), Roman Republic (from 510 BC, governed by the Senate), this success depended on military conquest, commercial predominance, as well as selective assimilation of neighboring civilizations, most notably the Etruscans and Greeks. A large and good defended city, with one million citizens. Containing amazing buildings, great strongholds, fasinaticing people and more. Moderators: Lucius Valerius Silvio, Senator Marius
Etrusca The Etruscan civilization is the name given today to the culture and way of life of people of ancient Italy whom ancient Romans called Etrusci or Tusci. The ancient Greeks' word for them was Tyrrhenoi, or Tyrrsenoi. As distinguished by its own language, the civilization endured from an unknown prehistoric time prior to the foundation of Rome until its complete assimilation to Italic Rome in the Roman Republic; numerous artifacts of Etruscan culture survived the Roman conquest. Italic Tribes The different italic tribes settled around the mountain regions near today's Umbria in Italy. Although each of those tribes was different to the others around it in origin, culture, tradition, and stage of development, they all had one thing in common: Their language, umbrian, although they all used different dialects of this language. Later on those lands were named after this language. Moderator: Marcus Flavius Aquila
Illyria Illyria, founded by the tribes and clans of Illyrians, an ancient people who spoke the Illyrian languages. The delineation of ancient Illyria can pose a problem to historians, since before the Roman conquest the Illyrians were not unified into an Illyrian kingdom, and Illyria's borders before Rome are not always clear. The Illyrian town of Rhizon (Risan, Montenegro) had its own protector called Medauras, depicted as carrying a lance and riding on horseback. Human sacrifice also played a role in the lives of the Illyrians. Moderators: Kai, Proximo
Apulia & Veneti Apulia is a region in southeastern Italy bordering the Adriatic Sea in the east, the Ionian Sea to the southeast, and the Strait of Òtranto and Gulf of Taranto in the south. Its southern portion known as Salento, a peninsula, forms the heel of the Italian "boot". The region comprises 19,345 km² (7,469 square miles). Apulia is mostly a plain its low coast, however, is broken by the mountainous Gargano Peninsula in the north, and there are mountains in the north central part of the region. The Veneti were an ancient people who inhabited north-eastern Italy. The north-eastern portion of Italy was also once home to an indigenous group known as the Euganei. They superseded and later mixed with the group that came to be known as the Veneti. From the earliest times the Veneti appear to have been a peaceful people, chiefly engaged in commercial pursuits, the ancient Veneti traded metals and in particular gold. Moderator: Baro luonercus
